No matter where you go you will see various examples of eco-friendly products and practices. In my hotel room for example, there is a sign that says: “I am counting every drop save water”, right by the sink. When you go to the bathroom there are no paper towels. If you are lucky there might be an air dryer. There is a bar of soap attached to a metal cord in every bathroom.
When you go to a restaurant they give you these tiny cocktail napkins. The hotel bathrooms have a bidet so that people do not have to use toilet paper. When you turn on the television there are many commercials that talk about taking care of the environment. When we purchased drinks they gave us paper cups and paper straws. I wish that the U.S. was as respectful to our environment as the Koreans´.
Electricity is used wisely as well, when you go into a place there is a motion sensor that detects you so that the lights or escalator are not running at all times. Everything we buy in the U.S. is in bulk and thus creating a lot of trash. In addition, I feel we are a society that over consumes thus, we don't appreciate the little things. More is not necessarily better. Here in Korea people buy what they need on a daily basis. I think this is a great way to also reduce overconsumption and minimize waste.
If other countries modeled Koreaś practices we would be doing a lot better as a whole. Despite there being more people in this country they are putting their part to help our planet. Every little bit helps and when I leave back to the states I will be adopting some of these customs. Starting with a bidet in my master bathroom kkk (laughing in korean)!
